Worked with @steve.hynds.39 today on technique with squat and bench. Last week we addressed deadlift and touched over it again today.
We started our focus on core and understanding bracing by taking him through a few dead bug drills. We also took the time in the dead bug to learn proper use of breathing to create pressure throughout the torso. Combine bracing and proper breathing technique and you have a very stable spine!
Next we went to the floor and addressed rooting the foot into the ground by feeling 3 points of contact: behind the big toe and the little toe on the foot, and the heel. Keeping these 3 points pushing into the ground and applying torque to engage the glute muscles optimizes power output!
After those important cues, we added upper back and lat engagement by pinching the armpits and pulling the bar into the back.
These technique improvements helped him work past his previous personal best, even after avoiding squatting heavy for a long time because of the aches and pains! .
Next is to write a program for him to work on the new form and to strengthen around his weak links. By testing his lifts with heavier load we can target the points of failure to drive improvement! In 6 months after strength training, we will test maxes again! Thanks Steve 💪
Hard work pays off and we are proud of the hard work @tbensing18 has been putting in! Here he is deadlifting 255 lbs tonight, beating his previous deadlift PR by 30lbs. Great job Travis! Keep up the hard work!
